I AM ON TRENDS

You see this fashion world that we inhabited moves faster than we think. Now we have two seasons in one season. So when they tell you (bloggers, designers and trend forecasters) that peplum is in this season, believe them at your own risk.
They are undoubtedly telling the truth but what they forget to tell you is not to stock up everything because in two weeks if not days, peplum will be so-last-season. Don’t be scared, peplum is still as good a trend as anything, so you are still in the right track….for now. BUT. At you own risk
Point is, trends evolve everyday, and sometimes it’s time and money consuming to try to keep up. So I try to keep up with trends because I am trend abiding fashion citizen, BUT I try not to put pressure on myself, consequently I shop like a minimalist, if you may.
Buy items that are timeless and that you can keep when the next season comes knocking. If you buy a peplum, keep it classy, let it not be to overdone with colors and design.
The simpler it is, the easier it to keep it. When harem pants bombed us, because they did, and some were bad on people, some people were bad on them…but that’s one trend I liked and it was denied justice by people who misunderstood how it was supposed to be worn. They went hobo on it. Sadly now I wear mine when I’m cleaning my small mansion. And you look back and you have more than five of them in different designs, color and patterns.
I shouldn’t have bought them,,,,,what am I going to do with them? Well I can only keep them for the next 10 years to come; I’ll play vintage with them.
So next time when a trend hits me, ill try go simpler on it and buy less of the same thing.

Camouflage me and I’ll be your soldier forever

I really and patriotically love the new-coming-back trend of camouflage pants and jackets. I first saw them on fashion princess Rihanna and was taken aback by the way she had rocked them.  Good thing is that we have them in skinnies, so at least you won’t look like a lost combatant.  Try to rock them with a modest top so the focus can be on them. If it’s a jacket you are rocking, try diminish on the pants, you don’t want to take the shine away from them

Phenomenal Woman

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Loving

Lindiwe  Suttle has to be one of those artists who have no fashion borders. She goes an extra mile to express her style. Her style is artistic and pure.  I love her Cleo Droomer peplum.

Style Crush

When I first met Tshego Dontache it was last year around March. She was then a first year journalism student. I think I was fascinated by her style the moment I saw her. If I remember correctly she was rocking black leggings and a cropped T.

At that time I was enjoying the monopoly of being the trend setter in the department of journalism. So when Tshego came I said to myself, well I’m old now; it’s time to shift and let her take over. But because fashion and style run in my veins, I couldn’t.

Then again, knowing me I didn’t want to compete with her because I felt we were of the same breed. We both loved fashion and we both conveyed that love through style.
Over the year I remained the trendsetter in the senior department and she remained and still is the trendsetter in the junior department.

I remember when we were preparing for The TUT Department of Journalism Student Choice Awards 2012, and people were saying Tshego is one first year who should take over when I’m gone. People saw her as a threat to me but I saw her as a source of inspiration. Because I tell you, many times people, and I mean normal people who surrounds us everyday really do contribute to the way we dress. It’s just that our egos won’t allow us to acknowledge that.

So yes, I won the Trendsetter of the Year award last year but still Tshego is one of those people whose style I admire. She is a blogger now and if you like, you may check it out and get more on ideas on what to wear and not to wear. http://www.donpinkpolish.blogspot.com

Dros Anyone?

Last week Friday, I and colleagues, including my boss went to Dros Resturant in Hatfield. I’m big on beautiful food even though I am not a big eater. I had a steak which was totally well done, the way I like it. I like my steak well done honey. So I thought I should share pics……. When you see a stylish somebody in a tribal turban, just know it's me........
